Summer program 2024
Summer is finally here, and from June 21st we have a lot of new and exciting things planned!
In Fjæra - Every day at 11:00 - 12:00
"On the shore" is our super popular offer where everyone of all ages can come and learn about the sea animals that live on the shore. One of our skilled aquarium employees stands at the "I fjæra" tank at the back of the aquarium and shows off starfish, sea urchins, hermit crabs and other sea animals found in the shore. Here it is possible to see and feel the various sea animals, and you can also ask questions if there is something you are wondering about.
Special feeding – Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday at 14:00
In addition to our regular seal feedings, we have set up special feedings three times a week. Here we will vary between underwater training of the seals, interactive seal feeding where some lucky people in the audience are allowed to participate, and an animal training lab where you can learn how we train our seals and maybe get some tips on how to train your animals at home. It is the seals who decide what type of feeding they want, as we always adapt the training plan to their daily mood, so the very best thing is to ask about the day's special feeding at the reception on arrival.
Fish feeding – Monday, Thursday and Saturday at 16:15
It's not just our seals that get food here Polaria . Three times a week we have fish feeding at "Tromsøflaket", the large aquarium tank with cod and catfish, after the last seal feeding at 15:30. Here, one of the aquarium staff will feed the fish while they talk about the various species, and it will be possible to ask questions along the way.
Leo weekend – 19 – 21 July
Friday 19 July the baby harness Leo turns 1! We celebrate his birthday with a birthday song and fish cake for the seals at 12:30 up at the seal pool. Leo has learned many different behaviors, and he is very much looking forward to showing off to the public this weekend. A drawing station will be set up for anyone who wants to make a birthday card for Leo, and we also give a 10% discount on Leo teddy bears in our gift shop!
Become a Seal Expert - Tuesday at 1.30pm
This summer we are re-launching our super popular offer for children: Become a Seal Expert! As aspiring seal experts, the children will learn more about our seals, stand in the front row under one Seal-feeding and get the chance to win a seal teddy bear of your choice! We run "Become a Seal expert" four times this summer on the following dates:

Polaria expert – 21 June – 11 August
Our new interactive exhibitions opened in December 2023, and embrace parts of the research taking place in the Arctic. Here you can take a deep dive into the various species that live on Svalbard, see, feel and listen to the wildlife, and reflect on your own role in the food web. And if this is not enough, this summer you can become a Polaria expert! We have created tasks for different age groups where the answers can be found in our exhibitions. There will be a participation prize for everyone who submits their assignment, and at the end of the summer we will draw two winners Polaria - gift packages!
Polaria is open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. every day throughout the summer.
We feed and train our seals every day at 10:30, 12:30 and 15:30.
Our three panoramic films, "Svalbard - Arctic Wilderness", "Northern Lights" and "Behind the Scenes" are shown regularly throughout the day.
