Polaria is an arctic experience centre for the whole family. Are you curious about how animals, humans, fish and plants live side by side? Polaria is the perfect place to meet and understand life in the Arctic.

Here you will be able to observe seals, catfish, tiny sharks and much more up close. You will also get to see and possibly also touch some the different species that move across the ocean floor.

Seal Pool and Aquarium

Our seal pool is home to five playful seals that exercise several times a day. In the aquarium section, you'll find most of the fish species and shellfish of our polar region, along with the Arctic flora (plant life) underwater.

Seal training and feeding: 10:30 AM, 12:30 PM & 3:30 PM.

Panoramic Theatre

Our unique panoramic cinema shows the films "Svalbard Arctic Wilderness", "Behind the Scenes" and "Northern Lights", alternating every half hour.

Exhibitions

Polaria showcases the polar research from the FRAM centre next door. Through our exhibitions you will get some insight into what kind of man-made challenges our region is facing and why changes in the climate and emissions of contaminants in the wild have such significant consequences for animal and plant life.

Gift shop

Don't forget to stop by our gift shop with a wide range of quality products from local producers.

Café

Our café is unfortunately closed. In the reception we sell coffee and tea, ice cream and soft drinks, as well as fresh baked goods from Kaffebønna. We have seating both in the foyer and on the second floor.

Transportation

Polaria is located just outside the city center, and the easiest way to get here is by walking along the quay and enjoy the view. It takes you about 5 minutes to walk from the Tourist Information. You can also take a bus from the city center. Routes 33, 40 and 42 stop near Polaria .

Parking

Short distance from parking spaces in the city center, and parking space with vending machine in front of the building.

School visits

Learn more about wildlife in the Arctic! Through a visit to Polaria students get to see sea creatures up close and learn about connections in nature.

Polaria offers follow-up during the visit to schools that want it.
